DEMOREST, Ga. - The Berry College men's tennis team fought hard but fell 4-3 to the Piedmont University Lions on Tuesday afternoon on the road.
The Lions started the match off by taking the doubles point as
Jace Goode/Bryce Lepine lost 6-1 and
Xavier Deckard/
Anderson Lambert lost 6-4. The pair of Aiden Benoulid/
Jake Chapman edged out a win in first doubles by a close margin of 7-5 but it didn't matter as the Lions took a 1-0 lead.
The Vikings looked to battle back in singles as five of the six matches were decided via a tiebreaker set.
Jake Chapman prevalied in first singles after dropping the first set 6-4 he rallied to win 6-1 and 10-5.
Jace Goode also prevailed at second singles after winning the first set 6-4 and dropping the second 6-1 he rallied to win the tiebreaker 10-8. The Vikings looked like they might pull ahead as
Aiden Benoualid won second singles 7-5, 2-6 and 10-6.
Xavier Deckard and
Anderson Lambert also took early leads in number four and number five singles but both fell as Lambert lost 7-5, 4-6, 12-14 and Deckard lost 6-2, 3-6, 6-10.
Bryson Lepine also lost a tight match at number six singles as he fell 4-6, 4-6.
The Vikings continue action at home on Saturday, March 28 at 10:00 AM as they host Millsaps on the Campus Courts for Pack The House.
