Vikings Take Down Majors 6-1 to Open SAA Play

| By:
MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Berry college men played their first SAA conference match of the season on Berry's own campus courts, in celebration of "Pack The House" and prevailed taking down the Millsaps College Major 6-1.

After their past week's experience playing against Emory, Covenant, and Piedmont, the men were confident in their doubles game and rose to the occasion. Jace Goode/ Xavier Deckard at second doubles secured an early break of serve and stayed dominant at the net, constantly poaching and keeping their opponents on their toes in a 6-1 victory. The new third doubles pairing of Bryce Lepine / Anderson Lambert showcased precise shot making in their 6-1 victory, and Aiden Benoualid / Jake Chapman at third doubles focused on holding serve just as they had done in their previous week's matches, and then capitalizing on key points during the final game of the set to secure the necessary break of serve to sweep all 3 doubles matches.

Singles began on a different note as all three of Berry's top players lost serve, but Jace Goode at third and Jake Chapman at first showed incredible resilience to battle back from the deficit. Jace focused on extending the points and chasing down every ball, consistently averaging above 10 shots per point en route to a 6-4, 6-3 victory. Jake Chapman played against a fast counter-puncher who had all the answers in the first games of the set, but Jake committed to playing offensively and taking the net, eventually finding the rhythm to close his match 6-4, 6-3. Berry was now up 3-0 in match count and Anderson Lambert at fourth, Xavier Deckard at fifth, and Bryce Lepine at sixth all rose to the occasion to deliver convincing wins and provided Berry with an SAA conference win to start the season.

We thank all the families, students, and members of the community for making this a special day, and we thank the USTA and Logan Yerbey for supporting the team with catered lunch.

Please stay tuned as Berry plays Rhodes tomorrow for senior day, with an opportunity to go up 2-0 in the SAA conference.
