BC Baseball Sweeps Fontbonne and Moves to 9-0

ROME, Ga. -- The Berry College baseball team took a doubleheader from Fontbonne College on Friday. Game scores were 6-4 and 16-7. The Vikings moved to 9-0 and the Griffins dropped to 0-2.

In game one, Ben Jernigan went 2-of-3 and smacked his third home run of the year. His two-run shot in the third inning scored Alfred Francis who had walked earlier. Grant Perkins went 2-for-3 with a double and collected two RBI. 

Vikings' starting pitcher Ryan O'Connell (2-0) earned the victory. He pitched five innings, allowed two earned runs and scattered six hits. Parker Austin tossed the final two frames and garnered his first save of the season.

Leadoff hitter Ethan Boyer was 2-for-4 with one RBI for Fontbonne.

In game two, TJ Montgomery (2-0) started and got the win. He threw five innings, allowed four runs and six Griffin hits. Four other Vikings tossed one inning of relief in the contest.

Jacob Delk was 4-for-4 at the plate for BC. He had a double and two RBI. Casey Whitaker went 2-of-4 with five RBI. Devin Skelton, Francis, and Greg Keel all recorded two hits apiece for the Vikes. Kris Patel had his first collegiate home run for Berry. 

Sean Wallace went 2-for-4 and drove in two runners for Fontbonne.

The two teams close their three-game series on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m. at William R. Bowdoin Field.
