ROME, Ga. - The Berry College baseball program's season came to an end on Friday afternoon as they fell 16-6 to the Trinity University Tigers on the second day of the SAA Championships at AdventHealth Stadium.
Jackson Halla got the start and took the loss pitching 2/3 of an inning allowing five runs on four hits while walking two and striking out one. Jacob Bridges led the offense going 1-for-4 with 2 RBI.
The Tigers jumped on top in the first inning as they scored five runs with two outs to take a 5-0 lead. Brady Greene then came in from the bullpen to get a big out and limit the damage. The Vikings then got a run back in the top of the second as Charles Pulaski delivered a sac fly to make it 5-1.
The Vikings tried to get back in the game as Greene and Cole Porter tried to shut down the Tigers and did so in the second and third innings. The Tigers though were able to take advantage of some unfortunate plays for the Vikings in the bottom of the fourth as they extended their lead to 9-1.
The Vikings continued to fight as they got some runs back in the top of the fifth as they loaded the bases with one out. Jacob Bridges would then reach on a fielder's choice to drive in a run and make it 9-2. Bridges would then steal and force an error allowing Riley Uhls to score and make it 9-3. Bridges then came home on a wild pitch as the Vikings closed to within 9-4.
Once again the Tigers had an answer though as they struck for four runs in the bottom of the fifth to increase their lead to 13-4. The Vikings tried to rally in the top of the sixth as they put two on with nobody out. They were only able to get one run though as Garrett Lang came up with a clutch two out RBI single to make it 13-5.Â
The Tigers weren't done either as they scored three in the bottom of the sixth as they extended their lead to 16-5. The Vikings would get a run back in the top of the seventh as Jacob Bridges delivered a one out RBI single through the left side to make it 16-6 but that's all the Vikings could get as they fell in seven innings.Â
