Vikings nipped at buzzer, 76-75

CONWAY, Ark. -- Chanlir Segarra scored a game-leading 31 points, but the Berry College women's basketball team fell to Hendrix College, 76-75, on Friday night.

Segarra gave Berry a one point lead on a basket with five seconds left. Hendrix, however, responded with a layup from with one second left.

Segarra's 31 points matched a season-high. She was 14-26 shooting, as well as 2-4 from the free throw line. Segarra also made one three point shot for the Vikes and collected seven rebounds and dished eight assists in the loss.

The loss dropped the Vikings to 16-6 overall and 8-3 in the Southern Athletic Association. The win improved the Warriors to 11-11 and 6-5.

Berry led at halftime, 43-40. For the game, the lead changed hands eight time and was tied on eight other occasions.

Two other players scored double digit points in the loss for BC : Emma Cook and Zarriah Pierce.

Cook posted 17 points on the night, shooting 7-15 for the Vikings. She was also a perfect 3-3 from the free throw line. Pierce also put up 17 points in the loss. She was 6-12 shooting and also sunk two three pointers against the Warriors.

For HC, Dyslin led throughout the game, scoring 26 points. Dyslin was 10-15 shooting, as well as 6-7 from the free throw line. She also collected 10 rebounds in the win for the Warriors.

Although Hendrix shot 50-percent to Berry's 47-percent, the Vikings led the Warriors in both rebounds (37-35) and steals (8-7).

"We played hard, but a couple of mistakes in the closing seconds cost us the win," said Berry College Head Coach Stephanie Dunn.  "We need to learn from our youthful mistakes and have a short memory in order to get ready to play on Sunday."

The Vikings play at Rhodes College in their next game on Sunday, February 15, at 2 p.m.​
