MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Berry faced a tough challenge in the SAA Semifinal in the number one seed Trinity Tigers, as they fell short by a final score of 49-73.
Briaiah Lewis picked up where she left off yesterday with 21 points and 5 rebounds to go with three dimes. Her sister Jade Lewis joined her as the only other double-digit scorer with 11 points on three made three-pointers.
The Vikings started out the game with a strong drive and finish from Lauren Ellard just 20 seconds into the game. After a Trinity three, Elly Callihan knocked down a jumper off a feed from Briaiah Lewis, before Bri got inside and scored to make it a 6-3 lead with 7:44 left in the first quarter for the Vikings.
The two teams traded blows until the four-minute mark of the first quarter, when an 8-0 run proved to be deadly from the Trinity offense. Down 8, the Vikings mustered together two Bri Lewis free throws, but then gave up 5 unanswered to find themselves down 22-11 at the end of one.
Back-to-back jumpers from Jade Lewis was the start to the second quarter for the Vikings, bringing them within 6 with 8:26 left in the half. Following that spurt, the Vikings would only be able to put up six points for the remainder of the quarter, leaving Trinity with a 30-22 lead at the halftime break.
Berry's offense got going with a three from Jade Lewis after a couple of Trinity baskets that cut the lead to 25-34 with 7:12 left in the third quarter. Another J-Lew three would cut the lead back down to nine off a dish from Elly Callihan with 5:34 left in the third. The two teams traded blows down the stretch of the third, with Trinity pulling away to lead 51-38 at heading into the fourth.
Despite a valiant effort in the fourth quarter, Trinity continued to make timely shots as the Berry offense stalled in the final stretch, leaving them to suffer a 49-73 loss to close out their season.
