ROME, Ga. - - Zarriah Pierce scored 18 points as the Berry College women's basketball team defeated Wesleyan College, 77-45, in their home opener on Wednesday night.
The Vikings (1-1) led the visiting Wolves (0-2) in rebounds (54-35), steals (15-8) and assists (18-7).
Pierce led the Berry offense, shooting 7-of-15 in the field, as well as 3-for-5 from the free throw line. She also grabbed four rebounds, passed an assist and collected four steals for the Vikes.
Emma Cook and Imani Smith also added 12 points each in the win.
Smith was 5-for-13 in the paint, grabbed six rebounds and garnered four steals on the night. Cook shot 5-of -14 from the field. She grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and passed two assists as well.
Megan Casey and Alex Kiernan each contributed off the bench for Berry, sinking nine and seven points respectively.
BC took a slow 4-0 lead to start the game and maintained it for the rest of the contest. The Vikings led 37-22 at halftime.
For the Wolves, Justice Thigpen scored 14 points. She was 4-of-5 in the field, as well as 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. Thigpen also grabbed seven rebounds, passed four assists and collected three steals in the loss.
Outscoring the Wolves in all four quarters, the Vikings shot 37-percent (30-of-81) to Wesleyan College's 34-percent (16-of-47).
Berry will compete against Roanoke College in their next game on Friday, Nov. 20. Game time is 8 p.m. and will open up the Vikings' play at the Roanoke Classic in Salem, Virginia.
