Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ROME, Ga. -- Berry College baseball split with visiting Transylvania on Saturday. BC lost the first game, 16-6, but prevailed in the nightcap, 7-1. The Vikings are now 14-5 and the Pioneers move to 5-7.

Prior to the first game, Coach David Beasley was presented with a jersey commemorating his recent 500th career win. Addtionally, a new banner was unveiled which will recognize the accomplishment and hang on the outfiled fence.

In game one, Adam Boone (2-0) picked up his second win on the season and Joey Bell (0-1) for the Vikings dropped his first loss. The defeat halted a seven-game Berry winning streak.

The teams combined for 28 hits. Grant Perkins and Austin Neely each went two for two and drove in two runs. Alex McGill touched home twice in the game, while collecting two hits of his own.

The BC pitching staff was able to keep the Pioneers' hits on the ground by getting 13 groundouts of the 21 total outs.

Transy produced 19 hits with Zach Bynum, Trey Simpson, and Aaron Simpson knocking three hits each, and four other Pioneers had two hits apiece.

In the second game, Berry got back on the winning track with a 7-1 victory. Dalton Collet (0-1) picked up his first loss of the season, and The Vikes' starting pitcher, TJ Montgomery (3-1), picked up his third win on the season.

Montgomery went five strong innings only allowing one earned run and giving up six hits and had one strikeout. Hunter Voshell and Sam Liggett, got four of the six hits for the Pioneers.

Six of the ten hits from BC were collected from Perkins, Will Heard, and Doug Heath. Heath came in the clutch picking up two RBIs.

In the bottom of the first, Zach Farmer had an unconventional round-tripper. Farmer roped a single down the left field line when a fielding error caused the ball to go to the wall allowing two runs to score. When the fielder picked up the ball, it slipped and rolled to shallow center field to allow Farmer to score on a single with two errors.

The series win was the fifth straight for the Vikes. Berry College will travel up the road to Lookout Mountain to take on Covenant College on March 18th at 3 p.m. The Vikings return home on March 22nd to take on the nationally-ranked Birmingham-Southern in a three-game set.
