Box Score 2 GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Berry College baseball team had opening day at Guilford College on Friday. The Quakers rallied to win game one, 10-9. BC took the nightcap, 10-1.
The Vikings used the long ball in game two with three home runs. Berry scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back. Alex McGill, Kevin Scott and Zach Farmer all went deep for the visitors. McGill was 2-4 with two runs, a double and 3 RBI. Scott hit 2-4 and Farmer was 1-2. The Vikes had 12 hits in the game.
Ben Jernigan got the win for BC. He pitched four innings, struck out five and walked one hitter. Freshman Joey Bell earned a three inning save and allowed no runs.
Guilford's only run came on an inside-the-park homer by John Macon Smith in the fourth frame.
In game one, Berry built a 6-1 lead before the Quakers rallied for the win. Guilford plated five runs in the sixth frame to take a 10-9 lead heading to the final inning. Berry rallied with three runs in the seventh inning.
TC Boyd went 4-4 with a double and three RBI to lead the visitors. Both teams collected 12 hits and committed four errors apiece in the opener. Ryan O'Connell started for BC and allowed one run. Reliever Chad Busby gave up six runs and took the loss.
The Vikings (1-1) and Quakers (2-2) are scheduled to play a single game on Saturday at 1 p.m.
