By Matthew D. Stokes, BerryVikings.com Lead Writer

ROME, Ga. – After surrendering a double-digit lead in the second half, Berry's women's basketball recovered to notch the victory in overtime. The Vikings won, 66-63, over Southern Athletic Association opponent Hendrix on Sunday afternoon at the Cage Center.

Berry snaps a three-game losing streak to improve its overall record to 5-6 and 2-1 in SAA matchups. Hendrix remains winless at 0-13 and 0-3.

Trailing by as much as nine points in the first half, Berry rallied to exit the court with a 29-26 lead at halftime. Mel McLean paced Berry with 10 first-half points.

The second half saw Berry rattle off a 20-6 run to turn a tie ballgame into a 14-point advantage. After totaling two points in the first half, Chanlir Segarra scored 13 of Berry's points in that stretch. Hendrix sprang to life, however, rattling off a 17-4 spurt to knot the game up, 58-58. Jamie Tate beat the buzzer to even up the score, forcing an overtime period.

"We pulled out to a decent lead for a game that had been point by point," said Berry Head Coach Stephanie Dunn, "but we didn't hold on to it because we became passive as opposed to staying aggressive. I wasn't happy about that, but we were able to keep fighting and work our way into overtime."

Berry opened overtime by scoring the first four points before two Tate free throws put the score at 62-62 with 1:20 left. Berry's Alexa Evans scored on a layup with 0:58 remaining, and McLean put the game out of Hendrix's reach with another layup with 0:04 on the clock.

"In overtime we knew we had to take charge and we did for the first few points," Dunn said. "It was tit for tat. It was a conference game, and that's how conference games often unfold."

Berry had three players reach double figures as McLean and Tara Mullinax each notched 16 points while Segarra had 15. Megan Walsh pulled down a game-high 20 rebounds. Three Hendrix players totaled double-digit points as Tate and Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler each scored 15, and Katy Gallien finished with 10. Tate also hauled in 16 rebounds.

Berry will return to the Cage Center on Tuesday night against Agnes Scott at 7 p.m.

"Agnes Scott's going to be athletic and aggressive so if we come out playing passive, it'll be a long game," Dunn said. "We hope out to come out ready to play and do what we need to do to win."
