MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - A warm 7:00 p.m. kickoff at Bob Pearson Field allowed for a hard fought clash between the Berry Vikings and the Covenant Scots. After the 2-1 loss the Vikings suffered against Montclair State, they were looking to rebound, but it ended up being for not as the Scots walk away with a 2-1 victory.
The first half displayed a lot of the Vikings possessing the ball and creating chances, but all it took was a rough two minutes for the game to be decided in favor of the visiting Scots. In the 37th and 38th minute, the Scots managed to capitalize on two errors made by the Vikings and they put the ball in the back of the net both time, putting them ahead 2-0 when the half ended.
The second half was an even stronger display by the Vikings. Thanks to dangerous plays and chances created, they put the Scots on the ropes. In the 54th minute, Joey Captain diced through the Scots defense on a remarkable dribble, then made a game shifting pass to Cullen Maas, as he tapped the ball into the net to cut their disadvantage in half. That gave the Vikings some much needed momentum. This would mark Maas' first goal of the season. However, despite some hard fought battles, it was not enough for the Vikings to prevail, marking their second loss in a row, their first at home.
The Vikings next play on Saturday, September 19, against the Lagrange Panthers on the road at 1:00 p.m.
