ATLANTA, Ga. - A warm 3:00 p.m. kickoff set the stage for the first of the semifinals matches in the SAA Conference Tournament between the Berry Vikings and the Trinity Tigers. After the Vikings faced Oglethorpe, prevailing in a penalty shootout, they found themselves in a position to keep their intensity to face the strong Tigers side. Unfortunately, it just simply wasn't enough for the Vikings as they would end up with the a 2-0 loss to end their season.
The first half was a high-level display by the Tigers. They put a goal past the Vikings in the early minutes of the match to give them a 1-0 lead. The Vikings would find themselves chasing an equalizer for the rest of the half.
The second half had the same result but with a different energy. The Tigers were able to convert another goal to double their lead against the Vikings. While the score did not reflect it, the Vikings found another gear for the remainder of the match to keep the Tigers on their toes. They created several great chances, all for none in the end. The game would end 2-0 in favor of the Tigers, ending the Berry's season, which was a great long grind to the bitter end.
The Vikings will plan to improve upon their efforts next year. after experiencing a successful year with their young team. Only two upperclassmen depart due to graduation, but the rest of the young core of Joey Captain, Cullen Maas, and Leyton Brown will be returning.
