MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Berry College baseball team took on Covenant College, wrapping up their midweek series. Berry won the game convincingly 15-2.
Mason Schoonover got the ball first for Berry, going three up and three down in the top of the first.
Chase Edmonds started the game off with a single up the middle, and
Hayden Gilbert later drove him in to get a quick 1-0 lead. The Vikings went on to score a season high of 12 runs in the second inning.
Tanaka Mukono added to his home run tally, marking his second long ball of the season, driving in three Berry base runners.
Riley Uhls recorded two hits in the inning, totaling three RBIs. The Vikings batted 15 guys in total in the second, with seven guys recording a hit. After two innings, Berry led 13-0. The Scots scored one run off a Viking error in the top of the third. Through three innings, Schoonover has zero recorded earned runs.
Covenant scored a second in the fourth inning, before
Wynn Boren came in and sat the Scots down. Boren threw a second scoreless inning in the fifth as he picked up the win in relief.
Charles Pulaski hit a jam shot single into right field to score the Vikings' 14th run. At the end of five, Berry led 14-2. Boren got the first two outs in the sixth before
JT Whritenour recorded the final out of the inning.
Cole Porter came in for the seventh, closing out the game and capturing the career appearance record for Berry College. Porter made his 79th appearance on the mound, more than any other Viking in Berry College history.
Berry will be back in action this weekend at home against Millsaps College.
