Vikings Sweep Majors Behind Walk-Off and Offensive Explosion

Head Coach David Beasley Picks Up 800th Win

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Berry College baseball picked up their first SAA series win of the year as they swept the Millsaps College Majors winning the first game 4-3 in walk off fashion before rallying to win game two 12-5 on Friday evening on senior day at home.

Game 1:
Cam Welsh got the start and pitched 5 innings allowing two unearned runs on four hits while walking four and striking out four. Eric Fountain (4-3) picked up the win in relief pitching two innings allowing just two hits. Chase Edmonds led the offense going 3-for-4 with 2 RBI.

The Majors took advantage of several early Vikings errors to take a 2-0 lead which they held until the fifth inning. The Vikings finally found some offense in the bottom of the fifth as back to back doubles from Austin Jetmore and Chance Edmonds made it 2-1. Two batters later Chase Edmonds delivered a sac fly to tie the game 2-2.

The Majors would retake the lead at 3-2 with a two out RBI in the seventh. The Vikings then tied the game in the bottom of the seventh as Jetmore smashed a 1-2 pitch for a solo home run to tie the game 3-3. With the game still tied in the ninth the Vikings put runners on the corners with two down for Chase Edmonds who on a 3-2 pitch lined the game winning hit up the middle to secure a 4-3 win and Head Coach David Beasley's 800th win.

Game 2:
Eric Fountain got the start and pitched two innings allowing just one hit while striking out one. Jon Strydom picked up the win in relief tossing 3 ? innings allowing just two hits while walking one and striking out two. Riley Uhls led the offense going 3-for-5 with 3 RBI.

The Vikings jumped on top in the bottom of the first as Austin Jetmore delivered a two out RBI single to center to put the Vikings up 1-0. The Majors would strike back in the top of third with four runs to take a 4-1 lead. They would add another one in the top of the fourth as they led 5-1.

The Vikings rallied in the bottom of the fourth as they loaded the bases with two perfect buns and a single off the pitcher. Jacob Bridges then came through with a two run single to make it 5-3. The Vikings would load the bases again for Uhls who ripped a two run single to left to tie the game 5-5.

Strydom then came in from the bullpen to shut the Majors down while the Vikings offense continued to hit. The Vikings would again load the bases with nobody out to start the bottom of the fifth inning for Bridges who delivered again with an RBI single to put the Vikings back ahead 6-5. Chase Edmonds then walked the bases loaded followed by a strikeout wild pitch allowing Garrett Lang to score and put the Vikings up 8-5.

The Majors looked for a response but the Vikings pitching continued to dominate with Strydom on the mound followed by Marco Cabrera who closed out the game tossing two shutout innings while allowing just one hit. The Vikings offense also added more runs as Hayden Gilbert delivered a pinch hit RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to make it 9-5. The Vikings then added more runs in the bottom of the eighth as they took advantage of an error to make it 10-5. Uhls then ripped an RBI triple to deep right field to make it 11-5 before Charles Pulaski came through with a two out RBI single as the Vikings went on to win 12-5.

On getting win number 800 Coach Beasley stated, "We are taking steps to getting back to playing a well rounded brand of baseball."
