DANVILLE, KY - The Berry College baseball team took on Centre College in the last game of their weekend set. The Vikings came out on top 14-3 in dominant fashion.
The Vikings pounded the Colonel offerings with 17 hits, led by Riley Uhls, who delivered in a huge way with 4 hits in 4 at-bats and 5 RBI along with a walk at the plate. Other strong hitters included Chase Edmonds and Chaz Moore, who each delivered 3 hits.Â
Jackson Halla, a veteran among the Vikings' pitching staff, began the season as the opening day starter for Berry, but recently took a role in the Vikings' bullpen. Halla, now back in the starting rotation, is looking to break the five-game losing streak for Berry. However, Centre got on the board first with an early solo home run, and tacking on another in the second to set the score at 2-0 after two. It did not take long for Berry to respond as Riley Uhls cranked his team-leading seventh home run of the season to tie the game at 2-2.
Halla put up two more zeroes to keep the game tied as Berry came back up to hit in the top of the fifth inning. Back-to-back hits from Chase Edmonds and Uhls gave Berry runners on second and third, but Berry was not able to come away with any scoring. Marco Cabrera took over for Halla on the mound in the fifth, recording a zero in his first inning of work.
Singles from Austin Jetmore and Chance Edmonds placed runners at the corners for Berry, and a wild pitch from the Colonels brought Jetmore home to break the stalemate. Two more hits from Garrett Lang and Chase Edmonds brought in another run to increase the lead to 4-2. As Centre brought in a new pitcher, Uhls greeted him with a three-run home run, notching his first career multi-homerun game, making the lead 7-2. Chaz Moore also joined the home run party, recording the first long ball of his career in a two-run shot. Another zero from Cabrera kept the score at 9-2 heading into the seventh inning.
Eric Fountain came in for relief for Cabrera, also recording another zero. In the top of the eighth, Charles Pulski doubled to left field to bring across two more. Jetmore then hit his first career home run by the way of a three-run home run, to make the score 14-2. Berry was able to close out the game in the bottom half, with the run rule taking effect.
Berry will be back in action this Tuesday at home against Covenant College.
