MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Berry College baseball team traveled to Maryville College to finish out the midweek series with the Scots. Berry was not able to slow down the Maryville bats and lost 10-6.
Berry got on the board first in the first inning off a double from
Chaz Moore, driving in
Garrett Lang. In the bottom half,
Cole Porter received his second straight midweek start, acting as an opener for the Vikings. Porter threw a clean first inning before giving up four runs in his second inning of work.
Mason Schoonover entered the game on the mound to record the last out in the second inning. Maryville added on another run off of Schoonover in the third, extending the Scots lead to 5-1.
Riley Uhls got the offense started again quickly in the fourth inning, hitting an opposite-field double and driving in one run.
Tanaka Mukono got Uhls across the plate and cut the deficit to two runs going into the bottom of the fourth. The fourth through sixth innings had Schoonover,
Marco Cabrera and
Jackson Halla all recording zeroes on the mound for Berry. Maryville had another big inning in the seventh, scoring five runs and pushing the score to 10-3. Berry was able to get three runs back and cut the Maryville lead to four, but was eventually shut down to end the game.
Berry will be back in action this Thursday, when they travel out to Texas to take on Southwestern University.
