GEORGETOWN, Texas. - The Berry College baseball team traveled to Texas to take on Southwestern University in their second conference series of the year and picked up a big 11-0 win via the run rule.
Cam Welsh got the ball in game one for Berry and started off on a smooth start, recording two zeroes in his first two innings of work.
Chaz Moore got the Vikings going in the top of the third, recording a one-out double, followed by
Austin Jetmore driving him in to give Berry the first run of the game.
Chance Edmonds was able to deliver for the Vikings again in the fourth, with a two-out RBI single to increase the lead to 2-0.
Berry added on four more runs in the fifth, thanks to a double from
Tanaka Mukono, a single from
Ben Fernandez, and a couple of defensive miscues from the Southwestern defense. Welsh continued to dominate on the mound, keeping the Vikings ahead 6-0 going into the top of the sixth. The floodgates remained open for the Berry offense, with five more coming across the plate in the seventh inning. Jetmore and Edmonds picked up a couple more RBI's with both recording singles. Berry was able to end the game in the seventh inning at 11-0 on a run rule. Welsh finished with a complete game shutout, marking his best start so far in his Berry College career.
Berry is back in action tomorrow, when the Vikings play a doubleheader starting at 2pm.
