Game One:
SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The Berry College volleyball team dropped a 3–0 decision to Trinity University on Saturday afternoon, falling by set scores of 25–17, 25–23 and 25–18.
The Vikings opened the match with strong offensive momentum, highlighted by kills from Keira Kruk and Madie Whitehead, as well as defensive digs from Andrea Hurt, who also recorded a service ace. Despite the early push, Trinity closed the first set on a run to secure a 25–17 win.
Berry responded in the second set with a quick 3–1 lead behind kills from Lura Underwood and an ace by Whitehead. Ailee England contributed key serves, including a pair of consecutive points that extended the advantage to 14–8. The Tigers rallied to even the score at 14–14 before edging out a tight frame, 25–23.
In the third set, the Vikings once again started strong with kills from Underwood and freshman Shelby Harris, but Trinity used a late surge to seal the match. Whitehead added another kill and Blakely Barnes provided strong play at the net, but the Tigers secured the final set, 25–18.
Berry finished the night with multiple contributors on both sides of the ball, showing defensive resilience and offensive creativity despite the sweep.
Game Two:Â
The Berry College volleyball team turned around to deliver a dominant performance on Saturday night at the Trinity Tri tournament, sweeping Rhodes College 3–0 (25–16, 25–18, 25–18) to earn their first Southern Athletic Association (SAA) win of the season.
The Vikings set the tone early in the opening set with kills from Whitehead and Maddie Dahl, along with strong blocking by Barnes. Hurt fueled the run at the service line, adding an ace to push the lead to 11–5. Later, an ace from Ava Brovet extended the advantage before Berry closed out the set, 25–17.
In the second frame, the Vikings used a balanced attack and steady setting from Brovet to stay in control. Whitehead led the charge with four consecutive kills, while Kruk added an ace to keep momentum rolling. Berry pulled away late, sealing the set 25–18.
The third set mirrored the first two, with Whitehead continuing her standout performance, recording her 13th kill of the match. Dahl added timely strikes to keep Berry in front, and Hurt's setting paced the attack down the stretch. Kruk capped the sweep with the final point as the Vikings secured the set, 25–18.
Berry's strong all-around effort showcased both its offensive firepower and defensive resilience, never trailing by more than a few points in the match.
The Vikings return to action on Sunday morning against SAA foe Centre College at 12:00 p.m.
