Defense Shines in Draw with Hornets

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Berry College men's soccer team earned a hard fought 0-0 draw against the University of Lynchburg Hornets on Sunday afternoon in a neutral site contest in Maryville.

The Vikings defense shined in the draw facing 14 shots including four on target but Cooper Cherry came up big in net recording four saves and earning his second shutout of the season.

The game started off slow as the first shot wasn't recorded until the 18th minute by the Hornets. The Vikings tried to put together an attack in the first half but weren't able to generate any good opportunities as the game was scoreless heading into halftime.

The Vikings mixed up their lineup in the second half as they brought on several substitutes including Charlie Stokes who recorded the Vikings first shot in the 53rd minute. The Hornets continued to generate the best chances but Cherry and the Vikings defense kept them off the board as the game ended 0-0.

The Vikings continue their season on the road as they head to Raleigh, North Carolina to take on Methodist University on Saturday, September 6 at 12:00 PM.
