LAGRANGE, Ga. - In day two of the D3 South Region Invitational hosted by LaGrange College the Vikings took on Pfeiffer this afternoon defeating them 15-9.
First baseman,
Riley Uhls headlined the day with an incredible stat line at the plate. He went 6-7 scoring 3 runs with 7 RBIs, giving him a new career high in hits and runs batted in.
Two hits in the top of the first inning converted to two runs for the Vikings to give them their everlasting lead that started with an Uhls double, his first of four for the day (another career high and Berry record for a single game).
Jackson Halla got the start for Berry on the mound, with a quick three up three down in his first of four innings. Berry stayed hot after a great defensive performance and busted out five hits with four runs in the second. Another Uhls double began the scoring as base hits from teammates locked in the other three runs.
Now up 6-0, Pfeiffer finally found some momentum for their first run (unearned) in the bottom of the inning. Again, Berry reverted back to high scoring as they did in their season opening weekend with Emory, in the top of the third five more runs came off of six hits: a double from
Austin Jetmore and five singles from teammates.
In a quick fashion the Falcons found themselves down 11-1 and began to try and stage a comeback with a good effort in the bottom of the third, boasting four hits and three runs. However, Berry still scored runs in the top of the next inning with another double from Uhls. The score now sat at 13-4.
Pfeiffer's best inning came in the bottom of the fourth with three runs on three hits before Halla could get out of the inning and bring in Angelakos to start the fifth. The fifth was the first scoreless inning for Berry.
Defensively the Vikings had 9 strikeouts which aided them on their way to 21 hits for the game scoring one more run in the sixth and seventh. As Pfeiffer attempted to comeback scoring their 9th run in the seventh, the Berry pitching staff consisting of
Jon Strydom,
Tyler Cassidy, and
Aubrey Moraitakis closed out the final three innings.
Berry completes the D3 Region Invitational tomorrow against host institution, LaGrange at 3:00 PM ET.
