MOUNT BERRY, Ga. — Berry College fell 4–1 to the Trinity University Tigers on Sunday after a hard-fought 90 minutes marked by physical play, multiple fouls, and key saves from both goalkeepers.
From the opening whistle, Trinity applied pressure, testing Berry's defense early. Berry goalkeeper
Cooper Cherry stood tall in goal, collecting several crucial saves in the opening stretch, including a stop in the 12th minute on a low strike from Trinity's Samuel Theiss. However, Theiss broke through moments later, capitalizing on a setup from Max Salinas to put the Tigers ahead 1–0 in the 16th minute.
Berry's defense battled to contain Trinity's speed on the wings, but the Tigers continued to find space in the attacking third. In the 37th minute, Aiden Perales doubled the lead for Trinity, pushing the score to 2–0 heading into halftime. Despite the deficit, Berry showed resilience, earning several corner opportunities and testing the Trinity backline late in the half.
The Vikings regrouped after the break, making several substitutions to spark momentum.
Parker Pollay and
Sam Carlson looked to energize the attack, each registering shots early in the second half, but Berry couldn't find the back of the net.
Trinity extended its lead in the 60th minute when Trinity converted a penalty kick for the second goal of the match, putting the Tigers ahead 3–0. Less than ten minutes later, Thomas Kay added another goal for Trinity, stretching the margin to 4–0.
Despite the scoreline, Berry refused to fold.
Cooper Cherry continued to impress in goal, recording several saves to limit further damage, including a quick-reaction stop on Hodge MacDonald in the 80th minute. Berry's persistence paid off in the closing minutes when
Max Albertson calmly buried a penalty kick in the 88th minute to put the Vikings on the board and cap off the afternoon's scoring.
The Vikings will be idle until traveling to Millsaps College to take on conference foe on October 11 at 2:30 p.m.
