MOUNT BERRY, Ga. -
After an on the road victory against the Millsaps Majors in Jackson, Mississippi the Berry Vikings focused their momentum on the Piedmont Lions at home at Bob Pearson Field. The Vikings came out triumphant in a 3-0 win giving them even more momentum for when conference play resumes this weekend.
The game started with positive intensity, with Tim Ratokhin finding the feet of
Max Albertson inside the box at just minute two of the match putting the vikings in high spirits following the rest of the half.
The Vikings saw the rest of the half out with good possession and prevention of the Lions having any break through with a solidly led defense by
Andy Guzman and
Jaxon Champ. The whistle blew with the Vikings having the advantage at 1-0 at halftime.
An almost carbon copy start of the first half happened once again in the 47th minute, but this time it was
Parker Pollay intelligently finding the feet of Senior,
Brock Shoultz, who slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 2-0 giving the Vikings even more real estate towards their second victory in a row.
With 15 minutes remaining, a lapse of judgment from the defending of the Vikings caused a penalty in favor of the Lions. Davis Knight stepped up to the penalty spot and skied the ball over Junior goalie
Cooper Cherry to keep the clean sheet alive for the Vikings.
It should be noted the magnificent efforts made by
Cooper Cherry as if it were not for him the results would not have been the same with his athletic and acrobatic saves to prevent conversion for the Lions.
The momentum did not stop, as
Alex Guzman, fired in a rocket outside of the box after a corner kick, putting the nail in the coffin to secure the Vikings second victory in a row to provide much needed momentum and confidence moving forward.
The Vikings plan to even out their conference record with their newly found momentum and motivation against Rhodes College at Bob Pearson Field once again at 12:00 PM on Saturday October 18th.
