ROME, Ga. — At Bob Pearson Field, the Berry Vikings extended their win streak to three games after defeating Rhodes College on Saturday afternoon to even their Southern Athletic Association (SAA) record at 2-2.
The match opened evenly as both teams worked to find their rhythm. The Lynx (2-6-3, 0-2-2 SAA) showed intensity and grit in possession, but Berry's (8-4-3, 2-2 SAA) resilience kept Rhodes from gaining any significant advantage in the first half.
In the 25th minute, a well-placed ball from
Mitch Register connected with freshman
Parker Pollay, who took a touch past the Lynx goalkeeper before being brought down in the box, earning the Vikings a penalty kick.
Sophomore
Jack Raulston stepped up to take the shot, placing it perfectly out of reach despite the keeper guessing correctly. The goal gave Berry a 1-0 lead with 20 minutes remaining in the half.
The Vikings held firm for the remainder of the period, taking their one-goal advantage into halftime and building confidence for a potential third straight victory.
Rhodes came out aggressive in the second half, pressing high and limiting Berry's margin for error. The Vikings' back line, anchored by sophomore
Jaxon Champ and freshman
Bryce Epstein, stood strong to deny multiple attacking chances.
Junior goalkeeper
Cooper Cherry also delivered another standout performance, commanding the box and making key interventions to shut down any dangerous opportunities.
In the closing minutes, the Vikings sealed the win following a corner kick that caused chaos inside the penalty area. The loose ball fell to
Max Albertson, who calmly slotted it into the bottom left corner to put Berry ahead 2-0. The goal marked Albertson's fourth consecutive match with a score for the senior forward.
The final whistle sounded with Berry earning a 2-0 victory, securing the team's third straight win. The Vikings return to action Friday, Oct. 24, when they travel to Danville, Kentucky, to face Centre College at 8 p.m.
