Volleyball Downed by Top Ranked Opponents

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Berry Volleyball dropped two matches in Minnesota this evening, both to top 10 opponents Northwestern-St. Paul and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, 0-3.

The Vikings have started their season off now 0-4 after competing against tough competition to debut their 2024 season.

Game One: No. 20 Berry vs No. 7 UNW
After a tough home stint last weekend, the Vikings hit the road to see some fresh faces in the North.

First up was No. 7 UNW, the host of the KTIS Classic. Berry fell 0-3 against the Eagles who are now 2-2 overall.

In set one, Berry was feeling a bit jet lagged as they dropped the tournament opener 25-15, an unusual score for the Navy and Silver.

However, they gathered themselves and fought in set two posting 14 kills in the set and holding the lead until a five-point run from the Eagles put them on top at 13-12. Berry tied the set, but service aces from the home team hyped the crowd as they went on another run to close out the set 25-22.

Natalie Erickson fought back from the Vikings with three service aces to try and claim back the set.

At the start of the final set, the Eagles took an early 5-0 lead that would determine the game and leave the Vikings unable to come back, despite senior Bella Boston's attempts as she led the team in kills for the game.

Game Two: No. 20 Berry vs No. 10 Wisconsin-Whitewater
Wisconsin-Whitewater dominated an already tired squad of Vikings in the first set, with 19 kills their opponent was unstoppable with Berry only totally six kills for the grueling 25-13 first set score.

Once again, Moriarty's squad fought a hard second set, coming up short at 25-21 and holding the lead for the majority of the time.

Up 20-18, UWW took advantage of a Viking service error to gain a point and go on a run to take set two.

Berry ran out of steam for set three falling 25-16 despite their efforts.

Berry will finalize at the KTIS Classic tomorrow against No. 23 Cornell at 9:00 AM.
