Cassidy Claims Two in Sweep of Sewanee

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Vikings completed the sweep of Sewanee to secure the second place position in the SAA heading into the conference tournament next week.

Game One Berry 16 - Sewanee 10

In a matchup between Berry and Sewanee, fans were treated to a display of offensive fun as both teams traded blows in a high-scoring affair. Ultimately, it was Berry who emerged victorious with a final score of 16-10, propelled by a relentless offensive onslaught and standout performances on the mound.

The Vikings wasted no time asserting their dominance at the plate, exploding for 16 runs on 15 hits. Center fielder Alex Knapp set the pace for Berry's offense, scoring 3 runs and showcasing his ability to get on base consistently. First baseman Riley Uhls delivered a memorable performance, going 4 for 5 with an incredible 6 RBIs. Third baseman Levi Cloud and left fielder Caleb Spikes also made significant contributions, each tallying 3 hits and combining for 7 RBIs. Their collective effort propelled Berry to a commanding lead and set the stage for victory.

Despite the loss, Sewanee's offense put up a valiant fight, scoring 10 runs on 17 hits. Third baseman C. Teel and catcher J. Roode led the charge, each recording multiple hits and driving in key runs for Sewanee. However, their efforts ultimately fell short against Berry's potent lineup.

In a game defined by offensive fireworks, it was Berry reliever Tyler Cassidy who emerged as the hero on the mound. Cassidy delivered a dominant relief performance, pitching 1 inning of scoreless ball while striking out 3 batters. His ability to shut down Sewanee's offense in a critical moment proved to be the difference-maker for Berry, securing the win and improving his record to 3-1 on the season.

Game Two Berry 5 - Sewanee 0

In a pitching duel between Berry and Sewanee, it was the Berry Vikings who emerged victorious with a commanding 5-0 win over the Sewanee Tigers. Both teams showcased strong performances on the mound, but it was Berry's ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities that ultimately made the difference in this low-scoring affair with Tyler Cassidy claiming his second win of the day.

The game was highlighted by outstanding pitching performances from both sides. Berry's Jackson Collett and Tyler Cassidy, along with Sewanee's J. Merril and R. Moll, delivered masterful outings, keeping opposing hitters off balance and limiting scoring opportunities. Collett and Cassidy combined for a shutout, allowing just 5 hits while striking out 5 batters. Their ability to consistently hit their spots and induce ground balls played a crucial role in Berry's victory.

While runs were hard to come by in this contest, Berry's offense managed to capitalize on key opportunities to push across 5 runs. Knapp led the charge for Berry, going 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and an RBI. First baseman Riley Uhls also contributed offensively, going 2 for 3 with 1 run scored and an RBI. Berry's offense showed patience at the plate, making the most of their scoring chances to provide ample support for their pitching staff.

Defensively, both teams displayed solid performances, making key plays to support their pitchers. Sewanee's defense, led by catcher O. Andress and shortstop L. Short, made several standout plays to keep the game within reach. However, it was Berry's defense that ultimately proved to be the difference, holding Sewanee scoreless and preserving the shutout.
