MARYVILLE, Tenn. - After a successful home tournament last weekend, the Vikings hit the road to Maryville to take on the Scots and defeat them 10-2.
Having fallen to the Scots twice last year, the Vikings had vengeance on this CCS opponent.Â
The scoring started in the top of the second with
Austin Jetmore and
Garrett Lang on from a single and catcher's interference.
Alex Knapp's single to center brought in one before the close of the inning for the indefinite lead.
A three run third inning put the Scots in their place with only one hit on the inning, the Maryville pitching staff were struggling to find the strike zone, walking two.
Up 4-0 Berry was sitting comfortably for the entire game.Â
The only runs from the Scots came in the bottom of the fourth then the seventh, just putting two up, but at this time Lang had found another run off a wild pitch to place the score at 5-2.
Charles Pulaski and
Joey Garcia once again led the team batting 2-4 with two runs each while
Riley Uhls had three RBIs.
On the mound for Berry, the Scots saw a plethora of pitchers, but
Mason Schoonover's first four innings was remarkable with three hits, one run, and two strikeouts.
Cinch Smith came out with his first collegiate win as he came in relief in the fifth facing three batters.
The Vikings will return home this weekend for SAA play against Centre College.
