MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Vikings have won their 18
th game this season with the 8-3 defeat of Covenant this evening.
The team was backed behind a great pitching staff and
Brady Greene earning his first win on the mound as a Viking.
A four run first inning for Berry sparked a great start to this evening's game. Four straight hits from the first four batters, including a
Joey Garcia double on his way to 3-4 on the night put the Vikings in a good standing.
Nick Brunswick's single to right field brought in the first two runners for Berry and
Andrew Pendleton and Garret Lang brought in the last two off singles to end the first inning up 4-0.
Covenant found a run in the third after Greene relieved starting pitcher
Cam Welsh on the mound. But the Vikings responded in the bottom of the inning with two runs on three hits with a throwing error on the Scots bringing in two for the home team.
Up 6-1 a rotation of pitchers saw the mound for the Vikings, all ten strikeouts.
Berry's final runs came in the fifth with Garcia bringing in
Chase Edmonds on a single and
Caleb Spikes batting in Garcia before the final out of the fifth was recorded.
The team looked to close out the game in the top of the ninth, but the Scots began to fight back with two runs on two hits and three runners left on before the Vikings could get the final out and take the non-conference contest.
Berry will be back in action this weekend for SAA play at Hendrix College.
