MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Vikings stay hot with a win in their tournament against Belhaven, 9-2, increasing their win streak to six.
Nicholas Angelakos boosted his record to 3-0 in today's win over the Blazers after entering in the fifth and
Tyler Cassidy earned the save in his 1.2 innings pitched (his second this season).
Scoring for the Vikings was led by a
Levi Cloud GRAND SLAM in the bottom of the second as Berry began to combat an early run from Belhaven in the first. The bottom of the second began with
Andrew Pendleton earning his first season hit on a bunt down the third base line to get on.
His single gave momentum to his team with
Alex Knapp sending him home to tie the game at one.
Charles Pulaski and
Joey Garcia also reached on singles to load the bases for Cloud who came to the plate to smack one over the right field fence and take a 6-1 lead over the Blazers.
Belhaven came back with a big fifth inning, consisting of a grand slam of their own to bring the game within one run (6-5).
The Vikings were not going to let them stay close for long though as they scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to sit comfortably.Â
Runs came after a walk, wild pitch, and single put Pendleton across the plate and
Garrett Lang scored off a
Tommy Bethel single.
Although the Blazers would be able to add one more run, the Vikings closed it out in the top of the ninth with Cassidy on the mound.
Berry takes on day two of their tournament, the Berry Invitational tomorrow against Marietta College at 4:00 PM ET.
