MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Today was day two of the Berry Invitational where the Vikings fell in a battle with the Pioneers of Marietta College, with a final score of 13-8 and bringing their overall record to 8-3.
The Pioneers opened the game up with a solo homerun over the centerfield fence to take the 1-0 lead.
Berry was not worried though, with
Charles Stephenson shutting down Marietta in the top of the second, his team was now ready offensively.
Riley Uhls hit a double to center on his way to 3-5 on the day.
Austin Jetmore's fly out advance Uhls and
Garrett Langs single pushed the first Viking run across the plate to tie it at one.
Third basemen,
Tommy Bethel earned an RBI with Lang advancing on a passed ball to get into scoring position, a single took the Berry lead at 2-1.
In the third,
Joey Garcia crossed the plate after reaching on a single, and in the fourth the Vikings found two more runs sponsored by a Pioneers wild pitch and Garcia's sacrifice fly (5-1).
Marietta had a big sixth inning to catch Berry, four runs on five hits tied the game at five all as the Vikings headed back to the plate.
Charles Pulaski answered with a HOMERUN to score two runs and lift Berry back on top at 7-5.
The Pioneers took their turn to go back up on top in the seventh with four runs and closed out the game with another four to keep their lead after seeing a total of six different Vikings on the mound.
Berry finalized their Invitational tomorrow with two games, one against Greensboro at 12:00 PM and the last game against Oglethorpe to follow.
