Softball Sweeps the Scotties

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - After being crowned with their new bling from last season's conference championship, the Vikings took hold of Agnes Scott with a sweep in two victories, 11-2 and 13-1.

Game One (11-2):

Hannah Gore increased her record to 2-0 on the season in game one seeing 15 batters with three K's, four hits, and two runs during her four innings.

Ava Fouts and Paige Bennett made some noise offensively for the Vikings as they went 3-4 and 2-3 respectively during the game.

In the first, Elly Bennett singled to get on and Morgan Frye and Shelby Daniel were hit by a pitch. With bases loaded, Fouts hit a two run single and a sacrifice fly from Anna Jackson scored one more runner to put the Vikings up 3-0.

Berry found more runs in the bottom of the third behind two doubles, a triple, and a single, along with another Jackson sac fly. The score now sat at 6-0, but in the top of the fourth, the Scotties took advantage of a walk and passed ball scoring two runs (6-2).

This did not sit well with the Vikings who chose to respond in the fifth taking their turn to capitalize on an error and wild pitch to score two (8-2).

The game kept rolling and in the bottom of the sixth, the Vikings run ruled the Scotties after a triple from Paige Bennett put the score at 11-2, up nine runs against Agnes.

Game Two (13-1):

Casey Holloway landed the win in game two with four strikeouts in the circle for the Vikings.

Again, Berry scored three runs in the first to start game two. Two singles put two on, and a passed ball scored on of the runners. Katie Parker's triple scored the second runner and Parker crossed the plate after a Scotties error (3-0).

Agnes tried to make it a game with a run in the top of the third, but Berry did what they do best and responded in the bottom of the inning.

Morgan Frye led it off with a homerun that cleared the fence and the street. Now up 4-1, two doubles and an error scored three more Vikings runs before heading to the fourth inning where the scoring became second nature.

Two singles and a walk loaded the bases for Berry. An error scored run number one in the fourth and Elly Bennett smacked a three-run triple to take it to 11-1. The Vikings weren't done just yet though, Sydney Moroney followed with her own triple to score E. Bennett and a sacrifice fly put Moroney across the plate.

Ava Fouts came to the circle to close out the game, with three outs the Vikings would run rule the Scotties again in game two, 13-1.

The Vikings will be back in action at home next Sunday against Bridgewater at 1 and 3 PM ET.
