Softball Takes Down Bridgewater

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Vikings Softball remains undefeated at 8-0 with their sweep over Bridgewater in today's contest, 7-0 and 7-2.

Game One (7-0):

Game one was all the Vikings as they scored seven runs off ten hits and held the Eagles to two hits across seven innings.

Ava Fouts earned her third win of the season, as a freshman, and was last week's SAA Pitcher of the Week, she threw all seven innings and had eleven strikeouts!

Paige Bennett began the scoring for the Vikings with an RBI single to center field that scored Lauren Cothern who was walked. Two more singles, one from Fouts and the other from Katie White, scored two more runs and when Morgan Frye reached on an error, Sydney Moroney crossed the plate taking the score to 4-0 quickly.

Bridgewater tried to make some moves, but Fouts and the Vikings held strong.

White earned her second RBI of the game in the fourth with another single and Morgan Frye closed out the game with a monstrous homer in the sixth that silenced any hope from the Eagles.

Game Two (7-2):

This time it was Bridgewater who had the opening run on starting pitcher Danielle Sudick who went on to claim the win.

Up 1-0 across two innings, the Eagles were looking secure, that was until the third inning. Sydney Moroney's single scored Katie Boman and Moroney later scored to close out the third and take the 2-1 lead.

The Eagles responded in the fourth to tie the game, but the #3 team came back to life as Elly Bennett scored Paige Bennett (3-2).

Now with Hannah Gore in the circle, no hits and three strikeouts doomed Bridgewater who was unable to do anything offensively for the remainder of the game and Gore earned the save.

Berry's Anna Jackson and P. Bennett rounded out the scoring in the fifth with three total RBIs on their singles.

The Vikings are back in action tomorrow at home against Wartburg for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 PM ET.
