LAGRANGE, Ga. - Berry Softball took down the Panthers of LaGrange in today's non-conference doubleheader with a big 11-0 shutout and 15-3 victory on the road.
Game One (11-0):
To start the day off,
Ava Fouts (now 2-0 on the season) outshined herself in the circle with nine strikeouts for the game and no hits across five innings while
Casey Holloway finished it off in the sixth as the two combined for a no-hitter.
Offensively, designated player
Anna Jackson came to play, going 2-3 with a homer in the top of the third putting the score at 6-0.Â
After the third, scoring seemed second nature to the Vikings scoring five runs in the sixth to run rule the Panthers.
The scoring line came by
Sydney Moroney reaching on a perfectly laid bunt and then scoring off an
Elly Bennett triple to center field! First baseman,
Morgan Frye sent in E. Bennett with a single down the right field line and then
Katie White,
Bradynn Belcher, and Holloway all added to the RBI fun as they stormed past LaGrange in the opening game.
Holloway closed out game one and finished it in six as the Vikings were up by eleven.
Game Two (15-3):
Game two did not play much differently besides the Panthers finally finding some runs.
Two outs in the top of the first did not even make
Katie White blink an eye as she launched her first home run of the season down the left field line.
Latifa Madesko advanced
Paige Bennett, who reached on a walk, off a single to put runners on first and second and bring Moroney up to the plate. She doubled to right field brining in P. Bennett for the Vikings second of 15 runs for the game.
Four hits and five runs in the top of the third brought energy and excitement among the navy and silver. Singles from
Ava Fouts and
Anna Jackson scored runners and Moroney's triple scored two. With the score now at 7-0, the Vikings backed off a little and the panthers took advantage in the bottom of the fourth, finding three quick runs.Â
Berry angrily responded to open the fifth with EIGHT runs of their own to more than double what the Panthers had just done.Â
Hannah Gore relieved
Danielle Sudick, who got the win in the circle for the Vikings in the 5
th inning to shut it down and run rule LaGrange for the second time that afternoon.
Catch your Vikings back at home tomorrow at 1 and 3 PM ET against the Scotties of Agnes Scott. Be there at 12:30 to watch the 2023 team be presented with their conference championship rings!
