MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Vikings have started a fresh 1-0 slate for their 2024-25 season with the defeat of the Huntingdon Hawks at home, 61-45.
Leading scorer from last season
Kenadie Lee took control of the game with 14 points to lead the team, while a key 21 made free-throws assisted in the three ball falling short.
Berry wasted no time setting the tone, outscoring the Hawks 18-8 in the first quarter. The Vikings capitalized on second-chance points and turnovers, with contributions from every corner of the roster.Â
Several fresh faces made their debut tonight:
Alana Azeta with three points,
Briaiah Lewis,
Katelyn St. Clair, and
Emma Hempker who posted her first seven collegiate points.
Despite some resistance from Huntingdon, who managed a 5-0 run in the third quarter, Berry maintained their edge and held Huntingdon to a 25.4% shooting percentage on the night.
Offensive rebounds played a huge factor, with the Vikings cashing in on 18 points off second chances to stifle any momentum the Hawks tried to grasp.
The Vikings' bench also proved invaluable, adding 21 points to the tally and reinforcing Berry's lead at every opportunity.
By the fourth quarter, Berry closed out with an authoritative 21-15 run knocking down key free throws, securing a double-digit victory.
Berry will return to action in their Exhibition game this Sunday at Georgia State.
