Jacob Antoine scored Berry's first goal of the season as the Vikings put up a fight against No. 21 Christopher Newport before falling 2-1 in Newport News, Va., Friday afternoon.
Berry (0-1) trailed at halftime as a goal in the 20th minute gave the hosts a 1-0 lead. The Vikings would strike early in the second for the equalizer. After getting the ball deep into the offensive zone, Berry turned the ball over briefly, but Antoine was able to take the ball back in the box. As he turned towards goal, he would get chopped down from behind, earning a chance from the spot. The senior would take full advantage, slotting the shot into the back of the net to tie the game up within the first minute of the second half.
The score would stay the same until the 63rd minute, when CNU (1-0) would earn a penalty kick of its own. A foul from behind on a ball bouncing high in the box would give the Captains the opportunity, and the goal would be scored from the spot to make it 2-1.
While CNU led in shots 15-3, only three were on target in the contest. Berry's one shot on goal found the back of the net.
The Vikings will stay in Newport News to take on Virginia Wesleyan on the road Sunday. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
