Playing down a man for almost an hour, Berry's men's soccer team stayed in the game but ultimately fell to Virginia Wesleyan, 2-1, Sunday afternoon in Newport News, Va.
The Vikings (0-2) fell behind in the fourth minute as the home side took a 1-0 lead. Things would get worse for the Vikings in the 31st minute as a straight red card would put the Vikings down to 10 men for the duration of the contest.
Still, Berry held firm defensively, as VWU was only allowed one shot on goal for the first half. The second half would be similarly close as the home side couldn't get any shots on target until the 78th minute, when a goal made it 2-0 with 12 minutes to go.
Berry cut the lead in half after a foul in the box gave the Vikings a penalty kick.
Ryan Antoine would convert from the spot, making it 2-1. Berry's would get a corner kick in the 86th minute, but a foul ended the threat. Later in the 87th minute, Berry would be caught offside, and Berry wouldn't threaten the rest of the game.
The Vikings will return to the state of Georgia as they travel to Demorest to face Piedmont in non-conference aciton this Wednesday at 7 p.m.
