BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Top 25, Berry pushed their conference record to 6-1 with a dominant win over the Panthers of Birmingham-Southern College, 53-6.
Receiving the opening kick-off,
Colby Sikes returned it 33-yards to begin the opening drive on the Berry 43 yard line. The five minute drive ended with the first of four
Brandon Cade touchdowns, Cade rushed 8 times in the drive for 43-yards and the first 6 points of the game.
In two-minutes the Vikings defense shutdown the Panthers to force a punt and give the ball back to the offense. With 7:50 to go in the first, a 30-yard complete pass from
Blake Hembree to
Josh Rogers set up Cade for another quick touchdown. Cade found 18-yards to the endzone as he blew by the Panthers to push the Vikings up 12-0.
Colby Sikes completed the two-point conversion and halfway through the first the Vikings were sitting high at 14-0.
Grady Bryant followed the touchdown by forcing a fumble for BSC, giving his team the ball back with 4:00 minutes in the first. The Vikings took their time and used most of the remaining time in the first quarter to push their way down the field. Three complete passes put Berry on the BSC 30, where they let Cade go to work and show his strength and speed as he rushed in for his third touchdown, still the only Viking to put up 6 for the team (21-0).
The Viking defense showed up at the beginning of the second quarter with an interception from
Kier Jackson and a blocked punt from
Walker Williams who picked up the ball and ran 46-yards to the BSC endzone for a defensive touchdown and to push Berry up 29-0, after another successful two-point conversion.
Brandon Cade found his fourth and final touchdown with 10 minutes to go in the first half with a big boost from
Josh Rogers 21-yard rush. Up 36-0, the scoring came to a halt for the rest of the half.
The first touchdown of the third quarter came after a five-minute drive by the Vikings beginning on the Berry 26. After four first downs,
Josh Rogers walked it in on the BSC 1 to shoot up 43-0 with a made PAT by
Charlie Bell.
SAA Player of the Week and D3football team of the week honoree,
Brock Skinner ended the BSC drive with an interception at the Berry 48. Berry's offense took advantage and scored the final touchdown of the third after a 51-yard complete pass to
Bryce Herring for a quick six (50-0).
Jake Whitten led Berry's defense with six tackles on the game and the team allowed one BSC touchdown in the fourth quarter before adding their final three points off a field goal on their way to dominate the Panthers and take an SAA win on the road.
