MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Vikings Football ended their 2023 regular season campaign with a senior day win over SAA opponent Rhodes College 36-12.
Prior to kickoff, Berry took the time to recognize their senior class on their accomplishments on and off the field with a senior day presentation.
Berry won the toss and chose to defer bringing out the Vikings defense. On the third play,
Brock Skinner's pick-six highlighted the beginning minutes. With a successful two point conversion, the Vikings shot up 8-0 with 13 minutes to go in the first period.
Vikings defense jumped back on to the field and forced a Rhodes punt that
Cade Petty blocked, with a defensive recovery Berry began their second drive of the game.
Five minutes elapsed before more points were put on the board. In four plays and 60-yards,
Brandon Cade rushed into the end zone for a quick six points and his first touchdown of the competition.
Quarterback,
Blake Hembree took his time in the next possession with eight plays driving for 55-yards. His 19-yard completion to Cade landed the team six more points and a second touchdown for Cade (22-0).
Rhodes answered the scoring game with an 81-yard drive of their own to land themselves on the scoreboard (22-6).
With time running out in the first half, Berry drove the ball down the field for 66-yards in the final 3:30 minutes. Hembree's four completions guided his team during the drive with five first downs and the final one to
Bryce Herring for a touchdown and
Charlie Bell added the PAT for a 29-6 lead going into halftime.
Starting the third quarter, Berry's defense continually shut down the Lynx offense allowing no points and more opportunities for the Vikings to push to score. Neither team would make it to the others end zone before the start of the fourth quarter.
The final points came in the fourth. To start of the fourth quarter, a 66-yard drive ended with Elijah Bane rushing two yards for six points.
Cade hoped back into the scoring action with the final Vikings touchdown featured with a 14-yard run.The defense held off the Lynx for the remaining ten minutes to lift their team to victory on senior day.
