Vikings Top Warriors, Stay Undefeated in SAA

A dominating offensive attack led by career high performances from Lindsey MacDiarmid with 50 assists and Lura Underwood's 17 kills propelled the No. 13-ranked Berry Vikings to a 3-1 (25-19, 20-25, 25-22, 25-23) victory over Southern Athletic Association rival Hendrix College on Saturday afternoon in Conway, Arkansas.

The Vikings (13-4, 7-0 SAA) trailed the Warriors (6-9, 2-4 SAA) early in the first set 7-4, but the Vikings quickly got back in the driver's seat by scoring four unanswered points initiated by a kill from Jazzy Innis.

Hendrix showed tenacity in the latter half of the second set. Trailing by two points with a score of 20-18, the Warriors capitalized on four Berry errors and went on a seven-point run to terminate Berry's lead and tie the game 1-1.

The Vikings found themselves in a similar situation late in the third set. Up 20-18, three attack errors from Berry tied the set. With the help of two kills from Bella Boston and a few too many Warrior errors, the nationally ranked team found their rhythm and took the lead.

Four sets were all Berry needed to shut the Warriors down. Seven kills by Underwood complimented MacDiarmid's 18 assists in the final set. Fittingly, the two partnered up to win the final point of the game.

Innis double-doubled with 12 kills and 17 digs on the day. Joining her was Underwood, who put up 19 digs next to her personal-best 17 kills. Kate Whittle defended the back row with 31 digs.

The Vikings aim to remain undefeated in SAA play as they take on Oglethorpe University at The Cage Center on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. EDT.
