No.13 Berry Defeat Lynx On The Road

The No.13-ranked Berry Vikings (12-4, 6-0 SAA) defeated Rhodes College in four sets (25-16, 24-21, 24-26, 25-21) in a Southern Athletic Association matchup on the road Friday night. Senior outside hitter Jazzy Innis reached a milestone of 1000 career points during the second set of the match.

Berry had control of the Lynx throughout the first set, finding the gap off back to back kills from Lilly Teagle and Innis to make it 16-10. The Vikings cruised to the first set victory taking five of the last six points. Rhodes kept it tight with Berry the following set. The two found themselves tied at 18 a piece late in the set, but Berry would go on a five point roll to put themselves back in the driver's seat.
The Lynx stole some momentum from the Vikings in the third set, climbing to a 14-8 lead that proved difficult for Berry to come back from. That is until Maddie Whitehead and Innis laid down a couple kills to give their team back the lead of 23-22. Cypress Guenther put down a kill to make it set point 24-22, but Rhodes would make a comeback, scoring four unanswered points to force a fourth set.
The Lynx put up a fight until the home stretch of the final set, but Berry found their groove in a key moment and suddenly found themselves leading 23-19. Teagle and Keira Kruk laid down the final two kills of the match to seal the victory.

Innis double-doubled putting up 13 kills and 14 digs, Lindsey MacDiarmid set up 44 assists, and Kate Whittle totaled 23 digs in the back row. Teagle racked up an impressive eight blocks on the night.

The Vikings will head to Conway, Ark. to face off against Hendrix on Saturday at 1 p.m. EDT.
