MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – With the game played under cloudy skies, the Vikings (5-3-4) dominated possession and showed off an outstanding defense in a 5-2 defeat of Southern Athletic Association foe, Millsaps.
Brock Schultz got the Vikings started with a goal in the 40
th minute of the first half. Making it the first goal of the match, and the first career goal for the sophomore.
The intensity of the match increased in the last couple of minutes, as Berry's defenders lined up against Millsaps to add pressure into the box. With four Berry defenders on the box, Freshman
Jason Wong Lopez scored a goal on the low center, and was assisted by forward
Nathan Carlson.
Full of excitement, Wong Lopez came running into the box once again to score his second goal of the game with less than a minute remaining in the half. This time, Wong Lopez was assisted by
Jacob Antoine.
Berry kicked off the second half with a 3-0 lead. With drizzled weather and slippery grass, the Vikings slid their way through Millsap's center-backs to score their fourth goal of the match.
Lucas Stevenson found the back of the net with an outstanding goal on the low center and was assisted by
Jensen Brown.
Millsaps scored their first goal of the match in the 68 minute, making the score 4-1. Antoine had a good run around the box fooling Millsaps' defenders, with a shot looking for a scoring opportunity, but it was wide left.
The Vikings kept on applying pressure and were able to add another goal.
Ty Presley was able to rush and get a head to meet the back of the net.
Millsaps took advantage of a penalty kick and scored their second and final goal of the match withing the last three minutes of the match. Making the final score 5-2.
The Vikings will return to Bob Pearson Field on Sunday to celebrate senior day, facing off against Birmingham-Southern at 2:30 p.m.
