Nearly every healthy Viking saw action Friday night as No. 7 Berry rolled past Rhodes, 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-14), Friday night in Memphis, Tenn., in Southern Athletic Association play.
Berry (10-2, 6-0 SAA) has not lost since opening day, having won 10 straight matches. The Vikings have won 30 of 31 sets played during the streak.
The Vikings took the first six points of the match and never looked back in taking the first set 25-13. Ahead 16-12, Berry went on a 6-0 run sparked by a pair of
Peyton Breissinger kills to salt the set away.
Berry only led 7-6 in set two, but the Vikings took 14 of the next 18 points to open up a 21-10 lead. A Lily Teagle kill would bring an end to the set on Berry's second try at set point, giving the Vikings the frame 25-14.
Rhodes (6-8, 0-6 SAA) scored the first point of the third set, but the lead wouldn't last. A 12-0 run that featured eight kills by the team and three Breissinger service aces gave Berry a 12-1 lead. The Vikings earned their first shot at match point when
Bella Boston and Cypress Gunther teamed on a block to make it 24-14. One more serve would be all the Vikings would need as Katie Whittle sent home Berry's 13th service ace of the night to give the Vikings the 25-14 win in the set and 3-0 win in the match.
Whittle finished the night with 19 digs, with Breissinger adding 18 of her own. Ten different Vikings had kills on the night, led by Breissinger's nine. As a team, the Vikings had 9.5 blocks on the night.
Berry will return to action Saturday at Hendrix in Conway, Ark.
