Jazzy Innis had a double-double with 14 kills and 14 assists and
Emily Rapach guided the offense with 50 assists as No. 7 Berry defeated Hendrix, 3-1 (25-15, 25-20, 22-25, 25-18), Saturday morning in Conway, Ark., to wrap up a Southern Athletic Association road trip.
The 50 assists by Rapach are the most for any Berry setter in a four-set match in program history, besting Hannah Kate Thompson's 48 in a 3-1 win over Washington & Lee Oct. 28, 2017. The fifth-year senior cleared the 2,500 assists mark for her career in the win and also clearned 400 digs for her career.
Defensivley,
Kate Whittle continued her solid play in the libero jersey with 29 digs as the sophomore set a new career-high. Whittle is now averaging 5.62 digs per set for the season.
The first set was close for the first 32 points, with Berry (11-2, 7-0) holding a 17-15 lead as the set got late. Suddenly, the Vikings went on an 8-0 run to close the set with a flourish. While two of the points were directly from Hendrix hitting errors, as a team the Vikings had three kills, two blocks, and a service ace.
A 9-0 run to start the second set allowed the Vikings to set sail to a 25-20 win.
Molly Bergin racked up three kills in the closing stages of the set to end the frame 25-20 for Berry.
Hendrix (7-6, 2-4 SAA) took the third set as the Warriors built a 22-15 lead in the frame, then held off a furious Vikings rally to take the frame.
Ahead 18-15 in the final set, Berry used a 5-0 spurt to take a 23-15 advantage. A
Peyton Breissinger kill gave Berry its first match point opportunity, 24-16, and two points later Innis sent her 14th kill to the floor to end the match in favor of the guests.
The Vikings will head to Oglethorpe Wednesday to begin the second half of the SAA regular season. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
