Berry's men's and women's indoor track & field teams took a limited squad to the Tiger Indoor Invitational in Sewanee, Tenn., and had solid performances Saturday afternoon.
"This was a solid meet for us. We brought a partial squad and used the meet to work on specific parts of our events that really only can be done in a competition environment. We were able to do that and then some in many of our events," said Berry head track & field coach
Luke Syverson.
Highlights on the men's side include:
- Mason Robinson set a new school indoor record in the Shot Put with a throw of 14.42m. Robinson also set a new personal-best in the Weight Throw with a mark of 14.57m.
- Three Berry freshman pole vaulters cleared 3.96m, with Connor Johnson clearing 4.11m to best teammates Alden McDonald and Andrew Rexrode.
- Sophomore Connor Cole placed third in the 55m Hurdles (8.10s)
Women's highlights include:
- Grace Schumacher set a new school record in the semifinals of the 55m Sprint with a time of 7.58s before winning in the finals with a time of 7.60s.
- Leighann Williams finished third behind Schumacher in the 55m Sprint in 7.69s.
- Senior Kammann Brown won both the Long Jump (4.98m) and High Jump (1.55m) in her first indoor event of the season
- Lula Hailey placed second in the Shot Put at 10.84m.
"Mason and Grace both had great performances," said Coach Syverson. "We had lots of indoor personal records across the board and also had most of our team finishing in the top 10 of their event. Even more importantly, we grew closer and stronger as a team."
The Vikings will be in action at the Joe Larocco Indoor Invitational next Saturday in Salem, Va.
