Volleyball Splits Day One of Marcia French Tournament

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Opening play in the Marcia French tournament, the Berry College volleyball team split the day, winning 3-2 against Denison but falling in five sets to Case Western Reserve University.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Vikings started the night with a 3-2 win over Denison (21-25, 25-20, 21-25, 26-24,15-6).
  • Berry then finished the night with a 3-2 loss against Case Western (25-17, 25-19, 22-25, 20-25, 13-15).
  • In the first match, Denison had 65 kills to Berry's 52, but the Vikings posted 14 total blocks to seal the win.
  • Berry went up 2-0 over Case Western, but the Spartans rallied for the reverse sweep.
  • The Vikings finished the night with a combined total of 110 kills, 113 assists and 162 digs.

  • Jessica Gum: 26 kills, .260 attack %, 10.5 blocks
  • Teagan Holderfield: 17 kills, 8 digs
  • Christina Goforth: 23 kills, 26 digs
  • Hannah Kate Thompson: 115 assists, 15 digs
  • Katie Truluck: 50 digs, 5 digs/set
  • Elizabeth Ragland: 36 digs, 3.6 digs/set

DENISON STATISTICAL STANDOUTS:

  • Leah Reinfranck: 17 kills, 9 digs, 1 block
  • Katie Aucamp: 12 kills, 4 digs
  • Julia Miller: 29 assists
  • Kristin Thewes: 35 digs

CASE WESTERN STATISTICAL STANDOUTS:

  •  Haley Sims: 14 kills, .500 attack %, 5 digs
  •  Brianna Lemon: 12 kills, 17 digs
  •  Shannon Carroll: 43 assists, 15 digs
  • Kayla Pfaff: 11 kills

NOTABLES:

  • The Vikings drop their first match on the year to the now 6-0 Case Western Spartans.
  • Thompson continues to lead the Southern Athletic Association in assists per set with 9.62.
  • Truluck leads the SAA in digs per set as well with 5.59. 

UP NEXT:

Berry will take on Mount Union College in their next match tomorrow at 11 a.m. The Vikings will then round out play in Ohio with a final match against Baldwin Wallace University at 1 p.m.
