ROME, Ga. -- Jake Emche scored five goals as Berry College defeated Methodist University, 17-9, at Valhalla on Sunday afternoon. Emche scored on all five of his shots.

Both the Vikings and Monarchs are 1-1 after the game.

Berry got off to a hot start and led 4-0 after the first period and 11-2 at halftime. For the game, Berry led in shots (37-35) and both clubs scooped 23 ground balls.

Thirteen different Vikings recorded points in the contest. Bailey Martin scored one goal and dished three assists. Quentin Johnson (one goal, one assist) and Christian (2 goals, one assist) Akers each recorded three points for BC.

Goalkeeper Nick Voso (1-1) earned the win after collecting 12 saves in 46:29. Zach McConnell made three saves in the final 13:31.

Jake Smerka tallied five times for the visiting Monarchs. Liam Von Hoene (0-1) had nine saves in the defeat for MU.

The Vikings host Roanoke College on Feb. 21 at 1 p.m.
