GEORGETOWN, TX - A slow start on the road from men's lacrosse set the tone for a tough 17-8 loss to Southwestern.
Pacing the scoring for the Vikings was a monster 4-goal performance from
Owen Morini, who did his best to will his team to victory. The rest of the scoring was balanced, with
Tad Zappa,
Michael Beirne,
Finn McClendon, and
Andrew Duffy all collecting a goal each.
Defensively,
Jacob Briggs stepped in and offered 42 and a half minutes of action while grabbing 15 saves.
The action got going with Southwestern bursting out of the gate with 3 goals unanswered.
Finn McClendon would work some magic and find
Tad Zappa who finished a goal to make it a 2-goal deficit with 6 minutes left in the first quarter.
Southwestern would add a goal before
Owen Morini would record his first goal of the game courtesy of a pass from
Sean Johnson to make it a 2-4 game. Southwestern closed the quarter out with two more goals though to take a 6-2 lead into the second quarter.Â
The Pirates continued their offensive spurt with two more goals before Morini could stop the bleeding with 10:38 to play in the half, leaving the score at 4-8. The two teams traded goals before Southwestern would explode to take a 6-goal lead into the half.Â
Southwestern would shut out the Vikings in the third, leaving the score at 6-17 heading into the final frame. The Vikings answered with a goal but could not build up a comeback, falling by a final score of 7-18.
