Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. -- Nick Voso recorded a career-high 16 saves, but Berry College lost to Sewanee, 7-6, in the Southern Athletic Association men's lacrosse championship game on Sunday.
With the win the Tigers (11-3) earned the SAA's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Vikings dropped to 12-5.
The Vikings again got off to a good start. They led 4-1 after one period, and 5-3 at halftime.
In the second half, however, the pace slowed down. Sewanee then outscored BC 1-0 in the third period.
The Tigers took their first lead of the contest, 6-5, with 13:33 remaining after Robbie Berndt tallied.
BC, however, broke its scoring drought when Paolo Falzi netted a man-up goal with 3:23 left in regulation. Jake Emche earned the assist on the play. Emche and Quentin Johnson both had a goal and an assist in the game.
Berndt recorded the game-winning goal less than a minute later off a pass from Cotter Brown.
The Vikings had one last chance in the final seconds to tie the game. Christian Akers' shot, however, was saved by Selby Austin (6 saves) with one second left.
"Our guys competed hard for 60 full minutes," said BC Head Coach Curtis Gilbert. "I'm proud of this senior class and all they've accomplished. It was a hard fought game that could have gone either way, but in the end we just ran out of time."
