Box Score CONWAY, Ark. -- The Berry College volleyball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat nemesis Rhodes, 3-2, and perhaps save its season on Friday night.
The third-seeded Vikings--but also the second ranked team in the region—would've ended the SAA Championships and maybe the year--with a defeat to the #6 Lynx.
The Vikings won the match by scores of 18-25, 17-25, 25-16, 25-23, 15-9 to prevail.
In the fifth set, Emily Stromberg served BC to a 3-0 lead. The Vikings never trailed and Jessica Gum recorded the match-winning kill to secure the win.
"Give credit to Rhodes for playing fearlessly and aggressively," said Berry Head Coach Mika Robinson. "I'm really proud of the heart and grit our team showed to come back and finish well after a really rough start."
Katie O'Rourke's .387 hitting percentage led the BC offensive effort. She spiked 14 kills and added four blocks for the Vikes as well.
Micayla Bedoian, Christina Goforth and Gum each added to the Viking offense with 12, 11, and 10 kills respectively. Goforth added 15 digs to earn a double-double.
Katie Truluck headed up the defense, collecting 21 digs in the victory.
The Vikings moved to 24-6 and play second-seeded Birmingham-Southern on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. EST in the SAA semifinals. The Lynx end their year with a 12-16 mark.
