Football game preview: Wash U at Berry

What: Berry College (0-3) vs Washington University in St. Louis (1-3)

Last year's game: Berry traveled to Missouri and Wash U prevailed, 44-7. Dale Jackson finished the game 9-15 with 113 yards and a touchdown pass. Will Chomskis led Berry's receivers with two catches for 48 yards and a touchdown catch. Chomskis scored the only touchdown pass with 5:14 left in the game on a 37-yard reception. Wash U was led by running back Zach Lonneman, who rushed for 148 yards with a touchdown. Eric Daginella passed for 127 yards with two touchdown passes. Mitchell Blanchard led the Berry special teams with two punts downed inside the 20-yard line while averaging 39 yards a punt. 

Berry Outlook: Berry competed against Rhodes in their first home game of the year. They were defeated, 12-0, but the Vikings held their own with a strong defensive performance. The Lynx entered the game averaging 41 points, defeating opponents by 22 points and racking up 398 yards yards of offense. BC, however, held RC to 12 points, lost by only 12 and gave up just 206 yards. Matt Farinella and Preston Stewart led the defense with eight tackles each. Stewart picked up a tackle for a loss of seven yards, and Farinella intercepted a pass late in the third quarter. Drew McCollum also picked up the only sack for Berry and picked off a pass in the game against the Lynx. The Vikings held Rhodes last week to the fewest points against the undefeated Lynx this season.

Washington University Outlook: The Bears traveled to Centre for their fourth game of the year. They were pinned with a 50-20 loss against the Colonels. Centre quickly jumped out early with a 20-0 lead early in the second quarter. Washington answered with a rushing touchdown by Cody Ratermann. The Colonels pinned a safety and scored on a pass late in the second quarter to advance the score to 29-10. The Bears kicked a long field goal as time expired to go into the half at 29-10. Centre put up 21 unanswered points before the Bears kicked another field goal and scored on a run to end the game 50-20. Washington used three different quarterbacks and finished with 179 yards passing. The rushing game only managed 40 yards in the contest.

Of note: Berry is celebrating the 100th anniversary of Mountain Day. Today's game is Washington University's 1,000th intercollegiate football game...Next year's meeting will be a Southern Athletic Association game as the Bears and the University of Chicago join the SAA as football-only members.
