Women's Soccer Breaks Two Program Records in 8-0 Victory Over Agnes Scott

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Berry College women's soccer team broke the program records for both shots and shots on goal in a single game in an 8-0 demolition of the Agnes Scott Scotties on Thursday night.

The Vikings improved to 3-0 this season, while dropping the Scotties to 0-2.

The previous record for shots (51) and shots on goal (25) were set on September 16, 2014 against Wesleyan College, and the Vikings were well on pace to break those records after the first half, attempting 29 shots.

However, despite the constant ball possession and offensive pressure, Berry only led 1-0 at the break. Their only goal of the half came from Emily Walsh thanks to an assist from Heidi Swain at 35:11.

The lead could have been even larger if not for some great saves from Scottie goalkeeper Olivia Rosario and several other shots that went just wide of the net.

In the second half, the Vikings fired another 36 shots, 19 on target, and found the back of the net seven times overall. The avalanche of goals started just under two minutes into the half thanks to Gianna Mainmone's third goal of the year.

Three minutes later, Emily Wagoner found Laina Engelbart to make it 3-0 Vikings, and then Regan Wiley scored her first collegiate goal to make it 4-0 at 64:24.

Berry scored four more goals over the next 25:36 of game time thanks to Swain, Walsh, Mia Cutler, and Adalee Christenson to make it eight on the night. They did this all while allowing just Agnes Scott shot for the entire game.

The Vikings finished with 31 shots on goal and 65 shots overall. They also forced 13 corner kicks. Walsh led the team with two goals, both Swain and Christenson finished with one goal and one assist, and 10 total players tallied a point. Maimone and Cutler tied for the team lead in shots on goal with five.

The Vikings look to carry this momentum into their Saturday game against Johnson & Wales at 1 p.m. at Bob Pearson Field.
